Mamoru Taniya

Mamoru is a leading angel investor and entrepreneur in Japan and has played a key role in shaping the private equity and venture industries in Japan. Prior to SDG Impact Japan, Mamoru founded Asuka Asset Management, as well as the private equity firm Mercuria. He created many other groundbreaking companies, including Money Design, the first robo- advisory firm in Japan and Lifenet, the first online insurance company.

He is Chairman of CAMPFIRE (crowdfunding), MNES (remote diagnostic imaging), R Project (community development), and Discover Japan magazine. Also, he is an ardent supporter of social enterprises, and founded the first UWC school in Japan, and is the vice chair of Human Rights Watch Japan. He also serves on the board of the Asia Pacific Initiative and the International House of Japan.
He graduated from the University of Tokyo Faculty of Law.
