SDG Impact Japan, Vana and Nomura Securities Selected for a Forestry JCM Feasibility Study Program by Forestry Agency of Japan

TOKYO AND HONG KONG – [2025/11/4] – SDG Impact Japan (“SIJ”), a mission-driven sustainable investment and impact firm; Vana, a nature-based solutions developer and Nomura Securities have announced that their joint proposal was selected by the Forestry Agency of Japan for its Forestry JCM Feasibility Study program.

Advancing Bilateral Climate Action and Private Sector Engagement

The core objective of the feasibility study is to develop opportunities for afforestation and REDD+ projects under the JCM in partner countries and to mobilize private market investment into the sector. This project directly supports these goals by creating tangible investment pathways for Japanese companies to contribute to climate action.

By generating high-integrity carbon credits, the project will help advance both Cambodia’s and Japan’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement and directly contribute to Japan’s target of cumulatively reducing and removing 100 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 under the JCM.

“We are grateful to the Japan Forest Agency for committing to restore Cambodia’s degraded forests and build resilience in local communities, and to SIJ and Nomura Securities for their partnership,” said Philippe Lenain, Co-founder and Partner at Vana.

Supporting Cambodia’s Sustainable Development

This project directly supports Cambodia’s sustainable development objectives. Beyond carbon sequestration, the project is designed to:

  • Enhance biodiversity by restoring degraded forest ecosystems.
  • Support rural livelihoods and resilience by creating green jobs and new income streams for local communities.
  • Promote gender equality by supporting the economic and social empowerment of women in project-related activities.

SIJ, Vana and Nomura Securities are committed to advancing a landmark project that serves as a model for how carbon markets can drive positive change for the climate, nature, and people.
